Unchain Our Children Extended Their Outreach To The Residentia Group Caring For The Wellbeing Of The Elderly, Disable And Youth

Serving the best interest of children, is the core focus of Unchain Our Children’s activities. We engage with life in the beginning years which is most vulnerable and so is life at the latter years, equally vulnerable especially for senior citizens who are often left alone and without resources for medical care.

A substantial donation of medical items from Pharmacy Direct enabled us to contribute towards the wellbeing of the elderly by reaching out to Sister Ilse Haasbroek, a well-known advocate for elder care with 37 years of extensive experience in the industry.

‘Unchain Our Children’s gift of medical supplies, is filling a huge void and will go a long way providing in the current need’, she said upon receipt of the donation.

The donation of medical supplies came at a time when Sister Ilse has been planning the Community Wellness Clinic, a Residentia initiative, to provide the community of Pretoria North with an affordable alternative for health care as exorbitant cost of medical aids and doctors’ consultations have been beyond the reach of many and people sit days at state facilities. Sister Alida van Staden in charge of the Clinic, has a dispensing license and is a specialist wound care professional together with extensive experience in other specialized fields of care. Everyone who needs help are welcome as services are rendered at a much lower rate.

Sister Ilse Haasbroek is Group Manager Care, for Residentia, one of the largest not for profit senior health and aged care providers in South Africa and listed 13 Lifestyle Centres across South Africa for the elderly, where they are provided with person first care by more than 650 experienced and qualified members of staff.  The residents enjoy healthy and nutritious meals and can partake in a variety of social and recreational activities which are based on their interests and hobbies.

The care units at the centres offers 24-hour frail care, dementia care, homecare, social services, general health care and emergency support. Under the Residentia banner also, is the Youth Resort in Winklespruit on the South Coast, catering for youth and church groups.

Residentia’s vision presents a sustainable model which encompasses not only care but also wellbeing of the elderly, disabled and youth. Their values of compassion, respect, integrity, and dignity are derived from their Christian based foundation and are evident in the wellbeing of the residents they care for.
