Ianthe Wessels, Mrs Universe South Africa 2019, has announced her participation in the combatting of violence against the vulnerable in South Africa. She decided to take hands with Unchain Our Children to forward their cause by adding her voice for the liberation of abused women and children to uplift and support survivors of gender-based violence and domestic violence.
Since a very young age, Ianthe’s entrepreneurial mindset took her on a journey from switchboard operator to suave executive secretary of one of South Africa’s biggest corporates in the security industry. Leaving the corporate world after 16 years, she pursued her beauty career and also started a new business.
Ianthe won the title of Mrs Universe South Africa in 2019 and afterwards represented South Africa in Guangzhou China where she competed against 80 countries. She chose to participate in the pageant as this platform gave her the opportunity to support and create awareness for abused women and children, a cause she always identified with and served.
Her daily life has always included volunteering for charity work and in 2019 she was chosen as the Ambassador for The Cradle of Hope, a house of restoration for abused women and children.
In July 2021 her dream came true when, she together with her partner, established Ianthe’s Coffee Café and Tea Garden in Montana Park where her FHT (Faith, Hope and Trust) boutique, specialising in unique fashion and beauty items, is also located.
As a qualified Image Consultant and Make-up Artist, Ianthe’s eyes are on the future, and she plans to open her make-up studio in 2023.
Equipped with a lifetime of essential life skills and extraordinary variety of personal and business achievements, Ianthe’s goal is to show victims of gender-based violence that there is another side of life and through therapy and counselling, change can happen, and life can continue.
Unchain Our Children is extremely fortunate to have Ianthe on board. We deeply value her humanity which she has expressed so beautifully on all levels of life while she always prioritised time to serve those to whom hope is the one element they need to hold onto while recovering from abuse.
